It began in 1966 in Hammondsport, New York, when Mike Moretti's adult art class held a little exposition to display their work. Members of the class included Marlene Pierce, Jeanne M. Lent, Elmer Hampton, Earl Blancher, Ann Smith, Vi Gunderman, Winnie Thomas, Mildred Bauter, Carol Ann Beanen, Rachel Chadwick Nicklaus and Jane Faber Thompson.
The exposition was repeated year after year, and it grew into today's Art Show, with professional judges, professional artists as well as amateur, ribbons and cash awards, and scholarship aid for student artists.
Several class members and their spouses formed the Keuka Lake Art Association to put on the Show and administer scholarship aid. All commissions on sales, and special contributions are used for organization and cash awards of subsequent shows, and for student scholarships. The Keuka Lake Art Show is incorporated as a nonprofit organization.
Since then, new couples have been added and old members have passed on. Mike Moretti continues to be our Chairman Emeritus. Until their deaths, Elmer Hampton, Jeanne M. Lent and Elwyn Pierce remained invaluable members. After Marlene Pierce retired from active duty on the Committee, Carol and Tony Olszewski assumed the many roles she performed for the Show. Mrs. Lent was known for her innovative encouragement of art in general and student artists in particular, such as her idea for displaying art at Ira Davenport Hospital - since adopted by most other hospitals. In addition, several annual awards honor the memories of Jeanne Lent, Midge Bailey, Earl Blancher and Elwyn Pierce.
